Review on 58 Piece Billiard Hardwood Canadian by Ron Houston

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best cue I've ever seen, but I've only been playing for about 65 years.

Some reviewers mention the leather tip; The manufacturer may have recently changed the product. Mine arrived in May 2019 as shown on Revain with a long hard phenolic tip. This is a great signal to take a break. The nib is textured enough to apply a light coat of chalk to it, but it's probably better to give the nib a thorough cleaning than just "drill" the chalk in hopes of even coverage. ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Tuff black, as shown, steel, external thread 5/16x18. The shaft has a 5/16x18 internally threaded brass insert, natural wood as shown, even taper from 21mm to 13mm, straight grain and fairly stiff, essentially inflexible. Total weight of 23.25 ounces, well within advertised specification. Incidentally, I've tested brake cues up to 32 ounces and found that the extra weight was offset by the loss of acceleration; For most players, the best break cue is probably between 15 and 24 ounces depending on skill. I've also noticed that as I get older I need a heavier cue. Because the energy transferred to the cue ball is proportional to the square of the velocity, many young players can benefit from a lighter breakbeat that allows them to accelerate to a higher speed when hitting the cue ball. By the way, if you've never tried a lightweight cue, find a homemade 15oz hardtop cue, chalk it up a bit and try it; You will be pleasantly surprised.
