Review on πŸš— Enhanced VHF/UHF AnyTone Dual Band Mobile Vehicle Transceiver AT-5888UV with Advanced Transmitting Abilities by David Romo

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Almost there, but not quite.

I have had the radio for two days. First impression, programming with CHIRP is quite easy, the programming cable is included. I haven't tried the programming software that comes with the radio on a small CD. It looks and looks well constructed and the controls work well. The fan is quiet and the radio seems to be putting out advertised power based on my power meter. The big downside is the quality of the sound received, which is terrible - tiny and small, especially the microphone speaker - completely incomprehensible. In fact, both the optional microphone speaker and the radio speaker in my inexpensive Baofeng UV-82 sound significantly better than this radio. One guy said the sound of my broadcast was slightly distorted and asked if I was broadcasting on a different frequency. I was not. I'll be using this radio for a few more days but might consider returning it and spending the extra $$ on the Kenwood TM-V71A. TO UPDATE. I returned the Revain radio knowing that the poor sound quality would persist in the long run. Annoy me. The rest of the radio works as advertised. Maybe I just got unlucky and got a "bad" or "defective" radio, I don't know; But in the future I will spend more time researching and testing devices before spending my hard-earned cash. Meanwhile, the UV-82C performs excellently and with a low-loss feed line and a high-gain base antenna, it can drive almost all local repeaters like AnyTone, all with only 5W.

Pros
  • High quality assembly
Cons
  • Some small things
