with strong foam core made of strong Plastic (probably something much stronger than plastic, just NOT SURE what that material is called exactly), but it's not a cheap molded wood material that will expand and deform once the plastic coating cracks and water seeps into the MDF {medium density fiberboard material} from the it is made. Seats in this style also tore very easily with some rough handling (the lid hitting the seat, etc.) and sometimes became unusable for months; Talk about planned obsolescence! Anyway, put it in my tenants' apartments and they seem to be holding up really well! No complaints from me (and I'm the type of guy who has to be on the floor with sore knees to have them replaced) and so far I'm a happy buyer. Highly recommended by someone who does a lot of service!
