After much deliberation, I decided on a set of summer tires measuring 245/45 R18 and purchasing them for 7 tr each (the premium was too steep). Although I do believe the rubber is well worth the price, it is still too noisy for my taste, and I will look elsewhere for rubber on my next purchase. The pluses: 1. Robust: despite careening headfirst into a sizable pothole at high speed, where the disk was bent but the tire was unharmed. Rolling 10,000 miles in two months and the tread still looks brand new. 2. I did a few 90-100 mph dives into puddles, and both times I hydroplaned, it lasted less than half a second, and I recovered quickly, so the car's behavior in heavy rain is decent and predictable. Requires compromises: 1. Extremely loud; even in the quietest business class, you can detect a low rumble.
