Review on πŸ“Ά MOTOROLA MB7420 16x4 Cable Modem - 686 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0, Comcast XFINITY, Charter Spectrum, Time Warner Cable, Cox, BrightHouse & More Certified by Nick Narvasa

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Over 2 years and only 1 streaming issue (which may not be modem related)

I ordered it within a few weeks of release because I couldn't stand the glare of the Arris models. Fortunately, this product did not disappoint. The lights are a bit bright but EVERYWHERE as bright as the Arris model I had. In fact, I put some LightDims Original Strength decals on the light to make it even dimmer. As for setup, I just went to the Comcast website, activated it, waited for it to be primed, and it worked. checked before and after installing this modem and I haven't noticed any change in my speed (55 Mbps down, 5 Mbps up and 37ms ping). However, when I'm not just rendering things, web pages seem to load faster than before. I also went to 192.168.100.1, updated my username and password, and checked all the device information (although I had no idea what most of it meant). Overall, I would recommend this cable modem, especially compared to the current Arris. models. UPDATE (5/2016): I've been using this modem for over 3 months and it's still working great. UPDATE (7/2017): 1 year and 6 months later it started crashing for me. When I watch a Twitch stream for about 6 hours, it crashes. I have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting it, then it works again. UPDATE (September 30, 2017): A few weeks after my last check, it just stopped reloading. I have no idea why it even did that, but it's been working fine ever since. I changed it back to 4 stars because I have no idea what happened. However, I sent an email to Motorola that never responded. Customer service seems to suck. Lack of customer service coupled with random resets happening for about a month, are the reasons for the 4-star rating. UPDATE: (7/1/2018): I'm still getting connection errors when trying to watch a stream on Twitch. It only happens when I'm watching Twitch. So I'm confused if it's Comcast suppressing Twitch, something on the Twitch side, or my cable modem. I tried connecting the cable modem directly to the PC but the problem persisted. At least I know my ASUS router isn't the problem. The top of this cable modem definitely gets very hot. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. UPDATE: (06/03/2018): After the last update I had no more problems with the modem. I will only keep updating if there are any problems. The top of this cable modem definitely gets very hot.
