I had trouble connecting all the parts until I used WD40. It makes it easier. The base would not align properly until I did so with the base on the ground and the rest of the lamp on the base connection. The color choice was very difficult for me. What worked for me was to shape the shadow with small Velcro strips and then connect the structure to the circle inside on a flat surface. That said, the latches worked as intended. After everything was in place, I pressed down firmly on the latches, pressing directly on the exposed portion of the latch with a small flat surface, not a screwdriver or anything else that might slide off. THEN I had a work lamp with a work shade. Taaaaaaaa! (I'm 84 and it took me a while to figure it out)
