Complete Shimano Deore/SLX/XT kits are only $60-90 front or rear, and these Ice Tech rotors are $40 each. So if you don't have a caliper of this level, why not just buy a better caliper and settle for 160mm? Of course you could. But on longer, steeper descents, these Ice Tech rotors provide a more stable feel that won't flag. I have a 56lb ebike and they help, I can feel the difference. That's why I got them. But on my regular 33lb bike it's really not necessary, I ride cross country and don't normally go faster than 20mph downhill. I will eventually switch to them on my main bike but it will take many thousands of miles to wear out all my 160mm rotors lol.
