Works great with cast iron as claimed. If the pan is particularly dirty, you can use a tiny drop of dish soap (as recommended by Cook's Illustrated) without damaging the spices. It also works on Pyrex glass but will scratch metal and even stainless steel. Now that my pans stay perfectly seasoned with little effort, I now consistently use cast iron pans instead of non-stick pans. Non-stick pans can't handle high temperatures safely, and since they don't last a lifetime like cast iron, I removed them all.
