Review on Park Tool Indicator TS 2 2 Truing by Mike Ewing

If you look at them, you know what they are.

Well if you know what they are then you know what you are looking at and what they are for. The set I received was defective from the start, broken in the box. It was a pleasure dealing with the company I bought them from but I chose to have them repaired at home without having to return them with all the added shipping and handling times. The gauges themselves are cheaper dial gauges with plastic parts inside and this was an issue. The barrel extension was twisted and broke the plastic guide inside. In the end I glued the plastic piece back on and it worked. Although it would be best to get a new part even though there is no MFG name on the turn signals to get replacement parts. The radial indicator contact point does not rotate, so it rubs against the edge of the rim and causes scratches. It's made of solid aluminum, which is surprising as it scratches the rim when it moves. A better option would be a rotating contact tip or a Delrin or PTFE tip. Either way, I'm far from happy with the set, but it's still the easiest way to get that extra precision without spending a ton of time creating your own setup. For 200.00 the quality should be better. And it is possible to replace (new/different) dial gauges as well as new contact tips from other sources or simply by yourself. Item included - 5 stars, dial gauges maybe 1.5 stars. I tend to be picky with this type of tool, coming from a mechanical engineering background and dealing with the likes of Starrett, Mitutoyo.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
