I use this stuff with AquaClear 20 bags You don't want to put too much in, just enough for the bag to be filled fits snugly where it normally would a MiniBow filter would be. If you fill in too much water, the water may overflow - simply fill the bag so that it is slightly larger than the size of a regular MiniBow filter, tie/seal the bag and rinse/soak until the water runs out it's clear. Then put it in place of the usual filter and you're done! If the water becomes cloudy, you have not moistened/purified it sufficiently. You can either throw away the media and replace/clean/soak when you want to change the filter, or just rinse/clean it and put it back in. The results have been wonderful - the tank is as clean and tidy as can be for my single cockatiel. I only flush the medium every few weeks along with a 30% water change and that seems to be more than enough to keep the water looking good. They're both a couple of snails and the aquarium is pretty reliable.
