Wanted to like these grinders. They looked smooth and were made of wood. Unfortunately I hated them after I used them and felt them right.1. You MUST take them as a basis. If you grab them by the top, they'll pop off instantly and sprinkle salt or pepper everywhere. You don't think about that when you pick up a salt shaker. Where to get it, so it happened quite often. Especially when the tip is loosely 1/3 millimeter. I can't count the number of times these shakers have spilled. Especially with company. How often is your windmill the talk of the dinner table? 2. You MUST have a large hopper. When the grinding rod runs the full length of the grinder, it protrudes through the feed hole. This causes two problems. First you need a funnel wide enough to cover the pole but small enough not to block the hole. Second, the filling hole is small and with the stem right in the middle, filling with a spoon can be a hassle.3. There's not a lot of salt or pepper in there. We kept filling it.4. It is not a rough grind of any shape or form. I don't mind finely ground salt, but it practically turns the pepper into a powder.5. The lip that faces the grinder is pretty sharp. We found it quite uncomfortable to grip and twist.
