The lamp is much brighter than I expected but it is NOT too bright. I think you should know that it doesn't emit light from a single source like an old style incandescent bulb. It creates light in an area and adds ambient light to the room. Imagine two discs of light back to back. They throw light onto walls and surfaces and in turn reflect light. If you look directly at it, it's kind of a hot spot of light. I usually put it behind me when it's the only light source in a dark room. (It might be a bit harsh in this environment). It finds its home in a tall bookshelf in the corner and fills the room with soft light. It is well made, durable and works perfectly on a tube timer. Enjoy!
