Review on StowAway Hitch Tightener: USA-Made Stabilizer for 2 Inch and 1.25 Inch Hitches by Matthew Perez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I use this with an aluminum hitch and it works great! You have to remember what you're holding.

This is a VERY strong clutch stabilizer. The black plate is 1/4" steel and the U-bolt is properly formed and sturdy. Apply a drop or two of 3-in-1 oil to each thread before screwing in as instructed (any light oil will do). . I use this with an aluminum hitch and it works great! You must remember to hold the ball hitch at the bottom of the receiver. This is important when towing something with significant weight on the drawbar (e.g. a boat or a heavy trailer). If you mount it opposite, the ball hitch is held UP at the top of the receiver and you are carrying a significant load (bikes on a bike rack are not a significant load. I'm talking 400+ pounds of tongue weight or more). then I think you're going to have problems. Also, you don't have to tighten the nuts like a gorilla! Don't put them on with pneumatic tools - you risk overtightening. b) Add a nylon loop to the op nut, c ) Apply a small dab of silicone sealant to the underside of the threads after you put the nut on (this will prevent the nut from falling off if it comes loose). In fact, you should still check your hitch every time you stop. This thing is heavy duty and I look forward to using it when towing my 4500 lb boat/trailer and my 2 man indoor snowmobile trailer. Used on a short trip so far and it worked great!
