Really bad product - no matter where you buy it.

I bought an HP printer that needs these ink cartridges for my daughter's dorm room. I thought it would be a good printer for their college use. Unfortunately, either the printer or the cartridges or both are just plain awful. I have been using HP printers and ink cartridges for many years and have always been satisfied with their performance, so this is the first disappointment for me. In the past I've bought high-end printers (bigger and with more features); However, a dorm printer doesn't require a high-end device, so we bought a simpler, smaller printer. I read many negative reviews with many opinions. Some people think these are fake cartridges - maybe. Some say these are gas stations – also possible. Some say you can't buy online because it's not HP products - that's possible too. Here is my experience. My daughter has been using this printer since October 2018 (5 more months). I gave her two packs of paper - that's 1000 sheets to print. She had to replace the black ink cartridge three times. By my calculations, based on the specifications of this cartridge, it should have printed more than 2400 sheets - okay, let's say more than 1500 sheets just to save money. I didn't give her extra printing paper and she didn't buy another. She has about 1/2 ream of paper left, which means she only printed about 750 sheets. This means that each 902XL black ink cartridge can only print 250-300 sheets of paper, which is INCREDIBLE. Even under the best of circumstances, this is an utter disgrace on HP's part. By the way, before buying and installing, I check the dates on each cartridge to make sure that they have not expired and that the warranty has expired. Here's the real kicker - I also thought the cartridges I bought online might be bad, scam. , gas station, etc. So my second purchase was at Costco. We got the same results with these cartridges. My third purchase was from Staples - same thing. This is an HP and cartridge issue. I am completely appalled by this product and HP's inability to resolve the issue. I can't imagine how many pages regular cartridges will print when X-Large cartridges only print 1/3 of what they advertised. I feel like we're stuck - the printer we bought seems to print fine once the ink is full. So now we either have to keep buying those crappy cartridges or buy a brand new printer for my daughter. HP should do something about this negligence. I've always loved HP and used them at home and at work. I have never seen such a horribly misrepresented product with so many problems. Be careful with the buyer - not only on the Internet, but with any printer that requires this cartridge, and this cartridge in particular.
