Review on Cat Mate Inc Locking Door by Melanie Hartmann

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well and looks good.

Works and looks good. But the buttons didn't impress me at all. I don't use them, but wish the piece of plastic would snap when I tried to stop the kitty. I understand that it can be configured to only allow entry or exit, or both, or neither, but I don't think they will stop a determined cat. during the winter months. Here's my advice on how to get your cat to use it. When it's mealtime, let the cat sniff the bowl and then go to the cat door. If the cat approaches, sniff the food again and then put it in the cat door. My cat didn't mind the door but wouldn't bang his head to open it. First I did it for him, and then I started gently pushing him to do it. It just needs a little push. It was about two weeks before he started going in and out on his own. Edit: I bought it in June 2018. It is now December 2020. It was working great until last night on a wet frosty night. It was frosty and the cat was stuck outside. This morning I had to knock a bit before opening the door to the outside, but it wouldn't open inwards. I had to hold the door open for him to enter. I came here looking for instructions on how to set up the four tabs that control whether the cat can get in and out. Didn't find her. Do not like. From what I heard while drying off in the shower, the cat was struggling to get in. Maybe the cat partially moved one of the switches. Anyway I don't want this to happen again and posting a link to instructions would be helpful. Well I'm a guy. I'm used to messing around with things without realizing what I'm doing. Maybe this time it will work.

Pros
  • Practical thing
Cons
  • So far so good
