Review on Champion Cutting Tool AC35 Lightweight by Mike Groover

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent representative of the Midwest! in power tools

Supplied in case intact but sliding locking knob/screw (5 x 15mm thread with plastic knob) bent 45 degrees. "I was having trouble finding a replacement until I contacted a MidWest representative in Kansas City. While not involved in these Revain sales, he was quick to send me a free replacement bolt, catalogs, and a local contact for any questions, supplies, or warranty work. It's so nice to find someone willing to cut through the red tape for a client! The block is of solid construction, accurate tolerances, etc. Designed mainly for core bits from 1/2" to 1 3/8" with excellent internal cutting oil flow, can add a standard chuck adapter to use standard bits. However, it should be noted that this adapter fills the shaft space before the standard bit is inserted. That means you'll have to build your own little mounting block to increase the distance between the chuck and the base by about 5-7 inches above the object you're drilling to be able to use standard drill bits. In addition, this machine is heavy and designed to hold panels 1/2 inch thick or thicker. Thinner plates may not provide a strong enough magnetic mount to secure the device, although I've seen them used on March 16th with no issues. When drilling 1/2" sockets, use less drilling pressure and watch for chipping. A safety circuit is included to catch the unit in the event of a power failure or a loose grip on the base. I suppose you could make your own 1/2" insert to match the hardware you're drilling. Trailer for field work where it is impossible to tow a full size drill. This device has one speed, about 700rpm, and no reverse, but the next one has reverse and variable speed so you can use the drill with one bit and cut in an up and down motion. The quality of the A-One device! "I just made a lot of holes in the 1/8 inch diamond plate with no problem, but you can move the device right/left or loosen it if you press hard. Moderate downforce worked great on this last project. Metal over thicker metal.

Pros
  • Cuts ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Convenient cooling and fewer refills compared to Dorntank
Cons
  • Very expensive
