I've been restoring old homes for over 30 years; The house I just bought was built in 1806 and it has 210 years of paint on all of its wooden walls. There are so many layers of color that it is difficult to discern the beautiful profiles of the intricate federal-style embellishments. I used really ugly, smelly materials for the outside stripping, but for the inside stripping, the Smart Strip is fantastic! Paint it on bold, pretend it's a peanut butter sandwich, cover with wax paper, and go away for a day or two. There is almost no smell, the skin does not burn. This product won't turn your project into bare wood quickly, but after a few uses you can either sand or use a heat gun to finish the job. The paint glides off fairly easily with a sharp scraper and you can just stick the stuff in a garbage bag and it won't melt. Again, you have to be patient to use this product, but it's worth it. This is my second gallon bath and I plan to buy more when I run out of water! Okay, a little addition for 2020. Just bought my fourth gallon as this old house has so much clutter that it had to be removed. In the meantime I also tried a few other soy strippers which were sticky and smelly and required rinsing the surface off after removing the stripper. Rough. Stick with this product and even if you have to apply it several times, you get a good result and almost NO odor. No regret.
