Review on Mohawk Home Surface Hardwood Surfaces Home Decor by Sourn Debremarkos

Well made perfect for 8x10 rug without trimming but not very soft

Honestly I am so confused by so many reviews on here. Based on all the reviews I read I came to the conclusion that when I received this Mohawk rug mat there would most likely be two things: 1) the wrong size and would most likely need to be cut to size 2) make my rug very soft and comfortable. Having received and used this product, both descriptions could not be more appropriate for my example. As for the first issue, I didn't have that issue at all, the rug was folded into a large box but was perfectly square and fit almost the same as my 8x10 rug. It was slightly shorter on all sides (maybe half an inch) so it fit underneath perfectly and ran the full length of the rug without showing the edges. Nobody will know he's there. Cutting was absolutely not necessary. HOWEVER, the more important second issue, and why I spent the extra money on this rather than the thinner foam pads I usually get, was the claimed extra comfort it would give my mat. I'm by no means new to rugs as we have hardwoods at home and some rugs, mostly 8x10 and 5x7, ranging from expensive full wool to terry and low pile rugs. This pillow offered "a little" extra comfort, but not much and certainly not double the price level of comfort. I seriously doubt anyone will confuse this rug as it is much more expensive than others have claimed. The problem is that the pad is a very hard and roughly pressed felt. I almost feel like calling it stuffing is wrong because that would mean it's soft and springy, like a pillow or something. This isn't the soft felt you find in a craft store, but a thick, almost denim material. There is a rubber pad on the bottom to prevent slipping and will not scratch the floor. The construction is solid but NOT soft, or as others have said: fancy, heavenly, luxurious etc. Honestly I don't know what they are talking about, if they have an older version that is softer or is it's all just relative, and we have different opinions but i don't understand how anyone can use these adjectives with this notebook. I thought it was like tucking rug under rug which really offers comfort, albeit a lot thinner. No, it's nothing but carpet filler that they put under carpet. Some have claimed that this material will fall apart again, which I expected from real felt material, but I couldn't imagine it falling apart with normal wear and use. You can easily pull furniture over it without tearing it. I'd say this advertises a true 1/4" height to the carpet, but it's barely noticeable and appears to be maybe 25% softer (if I'm being generous). It feels durable, love the non-slip padding underneath and loved it that it was 100% the perfect size and perfectly square. However, it wasn't very soft and added little comfort. For the price it was ok but not outstanding. I'm taking two stars for the lack alone I understand that added comfort is a relative description so others may obviously disagree. However, my wife and I came to the same conclusion. Used on 8x10 medium pile rug. Haven't tried it on our thick wool rug , since the pile is so thick that I doubt you'll even feel it underneath (plus, this rug doesn't really need to add plush) I'll give this review a go g update if the mat scratches the floor, shifts or deteriorates over time. I also have a very faint hope that it might "swell" and soften a bit over time, but I seriously doubt that will happen.
