Best option for Dementia and Alzheimer's

Read this review if you are having trouble setting your watch or if you are buying a watch for someone with dementia/Alzheimer's. I'll list a few steps/features that I've found to work. That being said, I bought this watch for my father who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I wanted to replace his expensive/almost unused cell phone plan with an easy-to-use GPS watch that can track his location, make and receive calls, and notify us when he leaves home or is in a public place. There aren't many solid options other than the overpriced Apple Watch, and I found them to be overly complicated and overkill for the features we needed. I've done quite a bit of research and this is the best option I've found. I wanted to write this review in hopes of helping those who purchased the watch and explaining what works best for me. My initial setup was far from easy, although I learned a lot along the way. If I knew what I was doing now, installing it would be a breeze. I'll cover which provider works best, how best to set your clock, and some features that I think work well for dementia and Alzheimer's sufferers. Be sure to select a GSMA SIM card; It's an AT&T network and their 3G coverage is much better than T-Mobile's. T-Mobile maps are misleading and I found them very generous in their 3G coverage. First I tried to use the cheapest available tariff and decided on Speedtalk (t-mobile) first. I was able to get started, but the coverage was so patchy that it never worked reliably. I compared several other providers and found that redpocket offers coverage on all major networks for around $10/month. As mentioned above, be sure to select gmsa. You have the best 3G coverage on most compatible bands. During setup; I would recommend not connecting via Wi-Fi at first due to false positives on proper networking. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, the application will most likely work, but as soon as you leave your home and it is not set up properly, the connection to the application will be lost. The clock does not consume much data. If you don't have an inside cover I would stop. I saw another reviewer stating that Wi-Fi improves accuracy and that no credentials are required to update exact location. If you're having trouble with your location accuracy, turning this feature back on may help. I've never had the good fortune that it worked right away after installing a sim card. The watch makes and receives calls but does not connect properly through the app. You'll probably need to contact redpocket to get the MCC, MNC, and APN numbers of your carrier's SIM card. I was able to inquire through the chat agent on the Redpocket site. I then contacted Tycho customer service, explained that the connection/tracking via the app was not working properly and passed this # on. They then gave me a text message to send to the watch from my phone. You will receive a confirmation SMS back to your mobile phone if the watch has received it correctly. Then I would restart the watch from technician mode and wait 15-30 minutes. (Be sure to reboot, mine only worked after a 15 minute reboot) If you go this route it will most likely set up correctly. You can also switch to engineer mode and check the GPS to make sure it has good reception. Functions not described in the instructions that I found useful for my father. My father's Alzheimer's disease, his motor skills and hand-eye coordination are not the best. It is difficult for him to press the power button to turn on the watch and navigate through the watch. While for most a watch is as simple as can be, for Alzheimer's sufferers even the simplest task can be daunting. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I would recommend enabling the auto-answer feature and removing the swipe request when you lock the screen. Once you turn on the auto answer feature, you can call the watch, it will ring once and then there will be an auto answer. My father had a hard time answering the phone. This solved that problem. One of the settings allows you to remove the screen lock, which requires a swipe. When my dad was able to press the power button properly, he sometimes had trouble unlocking the watch or forgot that functions required a swipe to open. Keep it as simple as possible and eliminate the swipe step. If he can press the power button, double tap and he can call the first three people in his phone book. As for my experience with clients. A+ They answered my questions within 10 to 45 minutes every time. I believe my initial failure to reliably set the clock was due to the original Speedtalk network (tmobile). At one point I was convinced it was a hardware issue and Tycho even had me replaced with a new watch to clear my doubts. Once I switch networks and set it up using the method above, there are no major issues. Good luck and I hope my review has helped someone.
