Excellent technical support is a key component

This is a very reliable turntable at a great price. Read a mostly positive review and I will support those sentiments. Yes, the front display is too dim and the remote control is cumbersome. But it loads quickly and offers a lot for a small price. Important to remember: A DVD player is basically like a toaster oven; The Blu-ray player is like a computer. It takes a lot of horsepower and good programming to decode a disc and show all the ins and outs. This is why many players are so slow or unreliable. They just don't get the job done. This handset is here, and (more importantly) Samsung is trying to improve. Once I plugged it in, I played Iron Man for 20 minutes. Everything was great. But in the techno file, downloading firmware is almost as fun as watching movies, so I plugged in the network cable and updated it. It was a simple process that took about 15 minutes. I put Iron Man back in and he refused to play! I thought it would play any disc other than Iron Man. Then I found that you can play by simply unplugging the network cable. I went online to a tech support site and thought I should tell them. Lo and behold, there was already a warning about Iron Man in the Samsung FAQ, and that was about a week after its release. So you were already there. I went ahead and filled out a problem report. The next morning I already had a personal message from a technical support representative. She worked with me over the next week to get more information so they could investigate and resolve the issue. She could not have been more polite and helpful. She got sick one day but still got an email from home to follow up. A few weeks later, she emailed me again to let me know that a new firmware version was available for download. Blu-ray is an immature technology. Big changes are happening and will continue. You need more than just a good player - you need a team to keep him going. My experience with Samsung could not have been better.

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • Dull packaging
