Review on Resistance Bands Set With Large Handles, Natural Exercise Rubber Bands Stackable Up To 150 Lbs, Comes As A Set Of 5, Fitness Workout Bands With Ankle Straps, Door Anchor Attachment, Carry Bag by Sam Hansen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly what they are supposed to be

C'mon guys! The weight rating is a relative thing, like "this band is stiffer than that band". Not a true measure of force required to expand the band across the bands stretch range. Try google'ing "spring k constant" for a better understanding of the physics behind an ideal spring, which these bands ARE NOT. Also, I imagine the weight rating is a MAX rating, so the working force is much lower in the middle of the stretch range (more on that below). With that said, the bands are EXACTLY what i would expect from a fancy rubber band. They have relatively constant resistance over a short stretch distance (like less than a foot) and then quickly gets stiffer if you keep going. That's generally acceptable to users. Also, much like fishing string, I believe the stated value is "max working tensile force", meaning if you hang a 10 lb weight from the 10 lb strap, you will reach it maximum working stretch distance. Anything beyond that and you risk breaking the strap. That 10 lb is at the strap's MAX range, so anything in between is much less and is only (mostly) constant in mid range. So the 10 lb strap is probably like a 4 lb weight for most of the stretch range then jumps quickly to 10 lbs, after which you risk breaking the strap.

Pros
  • This a great and useful item.
Cons
  • The natural exercise rubber used in the bands may have a slight odor that some users may find unpleasant. Though this typically fades over time, it may be initially off-putting to some
