Review on Spellbook Card Holder & Deck of Dry Erase Cards with Velvet Storage Bag - Forged Dice Co Spellbook of Incantations (Dice Edition) for D&D Spell Book Monster Magic Item Cards by David Garnic

Aesthetically pleasing and functional, just a few tweaks

Great news, this product looks and feels as good as you could hope for. The evergreen version looks natural and suits my rugged D&D aesthetic. Despite the lack of a clasp, the strap and cloth ring keep the book well closed. The book is also small so it doesn't take up as much desk space as a card index. Card sleeves fit both D&D spell cards and the high quality dry/wet erase cards that come with the tome. The sleeves aren't too tight either, making it easy to double down with two cards in each sleeve. And the bonus bag is a great addition to carry a book or lots of dice. The bad/unexpected news is that the grimoire includes two separate car cover holders. Not fundamentally bad, but different than expected. This can serve as a natural dividing line between two characters' spells, or between spells and other abilities that you might want to write on dry-erase cards, but it definitely divides the book into two. The sleeves are generally not too loose, but if you hold the book upside down when open and shake it a little, all of the spell cards will fall out, even from the sleeves I've kept up to three cards in. Maybe it's common sense for open sleeves, but just try not to open them upside down; or maybe you like my wish for the sleeves to be a little thinner and tighter. The worst thing for me is that the strap that keeps the book closed just gets in the way when you open it. Unless you have a book pressed against the table, the strap will obstruct your view, so I try to practice it by bending it backwards, otherwise you have to hold it behind the book to get it out of sight. I wish it was removable but that would spoil the overall aesthetic. Bottom Line: If you're looking for a cool looking book that includes all of your spell/ability cards (up to 60 when doubling) in one D&D session, then this is the little tome for you. The case and reusable cards are well worth the price ($16.99 at time of purchase). However, if you want a smaller or more functional card wallet, you may not like it. If you know a D&D player who uses cards then this would make a great value gift.
