Review on πŸ”§ Swanson Tool TC130 6 Inch Stainless Steel by Allan Lambert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Big combo square for little money

As many other verified buyers pointed out in their reviews, the square wasn't square when it arrived. I expected the same and wasn't surprised to see that the Swanson combination square wasn't square. So I got a small file and took some time to set it up so that it was perfectly square. It's not a complicated process; There's a video on YouTube on how to do this, one comes to mind from John Hayes. I think it took me 20-30 minutes to set mine up because I didn't have a perfect reference square and had to adjust by drawing lines with the square on one side and then the other way around until the lines matched perfectly, regardless of which side the square was turned on. Some woodworkers on YouTube warn against buying a combo square without a hardened or hardened blade for fear that you'll never straighten a bent ruler enough for the ruler to slide smoothly. Since this is not marked on the ruler, I suspect the Swanson ruler is not hardened but is a thick piece of stainless steel and will take considerable effort to bend. I think it's more economical to be careful with it and in case he accidentally steps on it or abuses it, just buy another instead of spending seven or eight times as much to buy an expensive combo square.
