I bought these from Revain just over a year ago and they were great until about 4 months ago when I spotted two hard red pieces of silicone in my kid's lunch. I noticed that the ends of the tongs were starting to choke and fray, which is why our meal contained colorful chips not meant to be eaten. The long rubber grip on the side also spoils the look, it can be scratched with a fingernail. I stopped using the red pair and removed it and started using the long green pair after which the same thing happened to them. At first I was so happy with them, the hinges held up and the silicone saved the dishes from scratches, but I won't be buying them again. The chunks that came off were 1/8 to 1/4 inch long and could be dangerous for very young children if swallowed as these hard chunks can get stuck in the throat as they are not smooth little chunks. I used them maybe 2-3 times a week and they have been washed in the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand. Cooked on a regular household stovetop, usually nonstick or less commonly cast iron cookware, but never left in a hot pan or used on a hot grill. Back to scratching metal pliers, but now I don't have to worry about my kids choking or damaging their dentures with bits of silicone.
