Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Callaway CNC Combo Groove Cleaner Tool with Ball Marker for Optimal Performance by Omar Austin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Unusable scrap converted to normal tool

Do not buy this item. It's cheap, weak, and besides a ball marker, it's useless. The plastic grooving teeth and metal grooving sharpener at the other end are not attached to the rubber housing and fall out (or fall out) very easily. I can't believe Calloway wrote her name on that piece of junk. Save money and buy a groove cleaning brush. It doesn't even cost 2 cents. Updated 10/29/17. A few months after I posted my review, I was contacted by email from Calloway customer service. The email apologizes for my experience, stating that I must have received a defective tool, and offers to send me a new Groove Cleaner to replace my original if I contact them, which I did. Shortly thereafter I received a new Groove Cleaner. I confess that I expected the same problem the first time, namely poor design and product failure. To my surprise, the new groove cleaner was actually better, as the groove cleaner's plastic teeth on one end and the metal groove sharpener on the other end were firmly bonded to the rubber body. Comparing to the previous one I could see that the first one was definitely defective - the slots where the two end pieces went into the body were split at the ends making them bigger so the pieces just fell out (or went in) . So I'm giving five stars to Calloway's support team who seem to have contacted me and exchanged the tool after reading my review. At least they support their product. As for the product itself, the jury is still out for me, hence the three stars. The plastic teeth clean the grooves of dirt, although they seem to break if too much force is applied. A sharpener with metal ridges is not really a sharpener; It's a flat strip of metal with a beveled edge that's not sharp in any way. It can remove any fine burrs in the grooves, but this is not a razor blade sharpener like the groove sharpeners sold at Revain and other golf shops. (My irons don't have burrs anyway, but I think that might help.) Again, I'd be suspicious of applying too much pressure on either side with this tool. Bottom Line: The tool will remove dirt/grass from the grooves in your irons with gentle and careful use and if you have burrs in one of the grooves it can help smooth out the grooves. Judging by the three stars, the instrument is okay. But I wouldn't buy another one if I lost this one. In my opinion there are better options. Thanks again to Calloway's responsive customer service.
