I am using a pair in an electronics project to cool a controller IC on a pair of buck converters. In my case I removed the thermal tape and attached it with JB Weld Epoxy. I lightly sanded the heatsink and chip for good adhesion. And yes I know they are constantly applied which is what I wanted. Don't be afraid that the thermal tape will come off. Controllers now run almost 12 degrees Fahrenheit cooler. That's how they work for me. The part I use them on is soldered in place. Both the part and the heatsink are inexpensive enough not to worry about replacing them.
