I am a big fan of infrared thermometers. They are really handy to have at home. I was tired of splitting my main line between the house and garage and always getting out the grease/dirt/oil so I settled on these. I'm a fan of AstroAI. They have excellent customer service and their products are generally reasonably priced. This device is well built for what it is - a consumer thermometer. Buttons and mechanisms seem very solid. The laser display is a nice addition that can be turned off when you don't need it. The screen is backlit for better visibility at night. Readings can be toggled between Celsius and Fahrenheit with a single button. I've had a hard time proving the accuracy scientifically as I don't have a calibrated thermometer to check. It was measured at par with my other device. The stuff in the freezer registered about 0*F, as expected. Objects around the house measured the ambient temperature in the room. Overall, this thing appears to be as accurate as you'd expect. An important thing to mention for all infrared thermometers is the D/S ratio. This is 12:1, meaning that at 12 inches from the target you are effectively measuring the average temperature of a 1 inch diameter spot. As you get farther from the target, the spot diameter increases and you may get different readings due to surrounding objects.
