Great set with a few minor issues and questionable claims.

This is a great starter kit or replacement kit when you need easy to use oversized kitchen items. I was deeply impressed by many things in this set, but it's important to know what is and isn't. I want to describe my take on cooking so you know what I'm getting at. from this review. I like cooking. I started cooking as a hobby in my teens and am now in my 30s. Over the past 20 years I have progressed from being a hobby cook to a confident, accomplished chef. I use a variety of appliances and cook most meals, from simple to more complex dishes, with ease. I also consider myself a cast iron and carbon steel enthusiast. My favorite pans are the cast iron Relics and the carbon steel Matfer Bourgeat pan. But sometimes a non-stick pan is a convenient and easy way to cook, and almost all of my non-stick pots and pans were many years old and so worn that I needed a new set, so I enthusiastically bought this set. I've been using all the items in this set for about a month now and overall I'm very happy with the set. Here are some of the best things about this set: - Tall broth pot - great size. I've never had a pot that exact size, but I like that it's big and doesn't take up much space (although it's still pretty solid). I've used it for soups, stovetop popcorn (it pops perfectly due to the even heat distribution), and slow-simmering beef and chili sauce for Taco Birria (it turned out fantastic!). I didn't know I needed this special piece. - The skillet (with lid) is great for browning marinated tofu (shown) and stir-frying (also shown). - Both pans are useful too (pictured are arepa and mine trying to sear a small piece of steak - not a perfect result but not bad - more on that later) - The smaller pot came in handy for cooking the pasta and a small batch to heat liquid - the non-stick coating is great for all of it. It is slightly rough to the touch and foods will not stick (from eggs to meat, etc.) even if there is even a small amount of vegetable oil. All parts are well balanced. The handles are heavy, but they prevent the pans from tipping and tipping, which I used to hate about cheap nonstick pans. I love that they can be used in the oven. I usually stick with carbon steel or cast iron when switching from stovetop to oven, but I'm glad I can use them and I've done it a few times. Now I have a few criticisms, including some dubious claims: - Pans just don't have the weight or heat retention to deliver incredible heat to a piece of meat like cast iron or carbon steel. Maybe you can get closer, but it will never be the same. Don't expect to replace another kitchen tool with a non-stick set. The claim that these are safe metal utensils strikes me as rather dubious. For example, I've used round metal spatulas to turn fish and I've already seen small micro-scratches on the non-stick surface. The surface feels more durable than many other nonstick pans I've used, but I don't feel comfortable continuing to use metal in them. I will use silicone and wooden utensils. The product page says "Don't cook with vegetable oil or butter." Aside from the fact that you'll probably need butter or oil for flavor, they're not incredibly non-stick, allowing food to slide freely without grease. For best results, I would use at least some cooking oil to grease the pan. The leaflet warns against the use of aerosol aerosol oils. I can't imagine why. I generally prefer not to use them due to propellants and other additives which I'm not sure about, but my wife is addicted to coconut oil spray for a few things. She used it in them with no problem, so that statement confuses me. Verdict: These are great heavy duty nonstick pans (compared to other cheaper sets) and for the price I feel they represent a lot of value. I like the sizes of pots and pans because they allow for most of the functions that a home cook would need. They won't replace everything and I wouldn't recommend using metal utensils. Nevertheless, this set is definitely recommended.
