To hang a light from an existing can this job could be a lot easier if we did NOT USE the plastic medallion in the kit. We painted it to match the lamp. Finally, we do NOT recommend using the medallion if your light's ceiling mount has side screw holes, as it will be impossible to access the screws without scratching, soiling, and fastening the medallion. If your ceiling mount bolts to your light vertically instead of sideways, it will likely work. We ended up painting the metal trim and OUR light's ceiling mount covered the hole in the panel, and the panel covered the hole of the can light nicely. So BE CAREFUL when using this constant light converter. FYI, the ceiling mount measures 4 3/4" on our mount and covers the hole in the center of the metal trim.
