I think this is a great idea. Real stones in your glass - you know, "on stones". The problem is the cooling. The melting process releases heat and brings temperature. Physically, rocks simply cannot be compared to ice. To be honest I put three stones in a double bourbon lowball then my next was the same but with ice cubes. The ice cubes definitely brought the temperature down a lot more than the whisky. (Maybe I should keep experimenting with liquids other than bourbon. Hmmm). As a novelty, I think it's pretty cool. Maybe storing your alcohol in the fridge or freezer would work really well and be a conversation piece. If you want your room temperature to be cooler, use ice.
