Review on High-Performance Blu-Ray Player Laptop External USB DVD RW Burner Drive: Unleash Superior Media Capabilities by Christopher Ruth

Revainrating 3 out of 5

When it worked it worked a little more than adequately (albeit slowly)

I received this disc on Saturday and immediately plugged it into my media server and used it to copy Blu-ray discs to the hard drive . I watched five discs (one right after the other) before I had problems. When inserting the sixth disk, the drive indicated that there was no disk! I tried to eject the disc (using the eject function of the program I'm using), but the drive wouldn't open! When trying to press the eject button on the front of the drive, the drive still WAS NOT ejected, but it spun and was finally recognized by the program! Ripped the sixth disk, took it out and put in the seventh disk. Again the drive showed no disk present! This time, the drive will read or eject the disc with no fuss! Disconnected both USB cables from the drive, rebooted the server, reconnected the drive USB cables and was (finally) able to eject the drive. I stayed there overnight (while still lagging a little behind!) attempted the drive the next day and got a repeat of the no-drive drama! I removed my disc, unplugged the drive, repackaged it and have now sent it back to Revain, from whom I have already ordered a more expensive Samsung portable Blu-ray burner as a replacement (hopefully it will last longer than this one). - Branded junk that I'm returning). Speaking of which, I played a disc copy of the film which was on disc six (which was in the drive when the problems started) and it had video errors. To be honest, this ride could have been longer. if its use were easier. While it was running, I noticed that the bottom of the drive bay felt quite warm after the third drive as I switched drives between rips. Maybe it wouldn't have failed if it was allowed to cool and NOT used constantly. However, five discs (about 45 minutes per disc) isn't that many discs! Since he could NOT keep up the pace, he definitely had to go!

Pros

Cons
  • Vulgarity
