Review on Anivia 1080p HD Webcam W8 - USB Desktop Laptop Camera for Video Calling - Mini Plug and Play Computer Camera with Built-in Mic - Flexible and Rotatable Clip by Joshua Turner

Works fine, no support.

I bought this about nine months ago to play online games with friends. Now that we are in lockdown due to the pandemic I finally got around to it. This is unfortunate because it doesn't work with my computer and other webcams are either out of stock or too expensive. This camera just doesn't work with my fairly new Windows 10 desktop. It claims to be plug and play, but when I plug it into my computer, the computer doesn't recognize the new device. I've tried plugging a joystick, portable hard drive, and thumb drive into my USB ports and they all work fine. I tried connecting this camera to my wife's laptop and it was recognized immediately and showed up in Device Manager. So neither my computer nor the camera are physically broken. I've tried telling my device manager to check for new hardware, I've disabled my antivirus software, rebooted a couple of times, and nothing. You'd think there's some sort of support for this on the web, but I've searched everywhere and there are no manuals, no drivers, no help. I tried to save a few bucks by buying a regular webcam (which gets pretty good reviews) but I just got burned. If you buy this webcam, you are taking a risk. You could get a good deal but you could get a lemon. Update: This works for me. Turns out I had to flash the bios. It works great, but I'm still deducting a star because there's no support, not even a website for the company that makes it.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Lots of things
