Review on Bell Motivator Magnetic Resistance Trainer by Carl Higdem

Revainrating 5 out of 5

What I wanted: Cycling

This machine is great. I have a basic trekking mountain bike with big tires and it's perfect for a trainer. I was ready to buy a real rod but decided to give it a try instead, mainly because of the space in my studio. I love spinning and have had trouble justifying two bikes in my small apartment. I'm going through a few points made by other posters: Noise Factor: Yes, loud, but not THAT bad. I used to have a treadmill and it was noisy too. If I'm shooting at odd times, I use the IPOD. Otherwise I turn on my stereo. You can turn the music up loud enough to drown out the noise. I never got complaints from neighbors when I had a treadmill. Still only 30-45 minutes. If you do more, it is not necessary (as a certified trainer). I suppose you could buy a street tire to get rid of the noise but I just don't think it's worth it. Also, if I want to go fast on the road, I have to change my tyre. A tire change is not necessary with this simulator. I was once told at a bike shop that I couldn't use my big tire on these shoes. I think it's about whether you can stand the noise or not. It comes fully assembled and is very easy to install on the bike. It's also easy to detach the bike for outdoor rides. The workout is similar to the fitness bike except you try to do sit-ups like you do in class. It might be my bike but it wasn't smooth when I tried. It does not bother me. If you park your bike on carpet, you don't need a front wheel lift/stabiliser. The rear tire isn't so high that you feel like you're falling forward. If I had hardwood I would buy some sort of mat or front wheel lifter to keep the front wheel stable. This trainer makes the bike very stable. Another helpful item is toe straps to keep your feet from slipping forward. This element is also optional but useful.

Pros
  • High score for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Doubtful
