Review on πŸ’Ύ Kingston Data Traveler Locker + G3 16GB USB 3.0 with Personal Security and Cloud Backup (DTLPG3/16GB) by Ethan Dualimace

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Excellent transfer speed, good first impression.

As with all new flash drives that I receive, I read and write to the drive to make sure the drive is working properly and I haven't found a counterfeit or defect. So far this drive has performed great, as you can see from my tests on a USB 3.0 port I was able to get a read speed of 137.73MB/s and a write speed of 23.41MB/s. This was done using the flash drive test tool and I did 3 full write and read cycles. The software screenshot shows that I only ran 1 because I accidentally closed the results of the first 2 tests, but they returned almost the same results as this 3rd test. There were absolutely no typos in my tests. It's actually faster than most of my other USB 2.0 flash drives, which is to be expected since it's USB 3.0. While the write speed isn't that fast, it's a decent speed for the price you're paying for this flash drive. I've found that when writing a large amount of data for an extended period of time, the flash drive heats up to the point where I feel like it's starting to overheat. I actually solved this problem by connecting a USB fan (ARCTIC Breeze Mobile 92mm USB Powered Portable Fan Portable Cooling Solution Silent Fan USB Mini Fan Flex Neck Mini Fan for laptop and PC – white). It might be a bit of an exaggeration, but I get paranoid pretty easily. You can see my setup in the photo of my flash drive. The USB drive is secure, although I don't want the drive to ask me about USB in the cloud anymore. If you click the "Reject" button, the software will save the text file itself to disk space, which takes up disk space and looks awful. You can mark a file as "hidden", but my computer shows all hidden files due to some work I do, so turning on "hidden" for a file does nothing. I wish Kingston never enabled this, or at least offered a firmware update that removes this functionality. I bought this encrypted flash drive to encrypt my data and not share it online where it could possibly be hacked. To unlock the flash drive, it takes a few seconds to start the unlocking program, for example 5-10 seconds. It's not fast, but once you enter the correct password, the encrypted partition will be mounted quickly. Also, I found that my drive doesn't need 2 consecutive drive letters to mount. I'm not sure if Windows fixed this issue or if Kingston fixed it, but it's no longer necessary. If this is your first time getting a flash drive, I recommend going to the Kingston website and getting a flash drive Mac update to make sure. that this disc can be used on a Mac in the future. This firmware update will erase your drive, so I recommend doing it immediately after purchasing this drive so you don't have to fiddle with it later. closed at the other end of the drive like a cap from a ballpoint pen. This is a nice feature as the USB protective cap is often lost. This is a great design feature. You can see this feature in action in my photo. Due to some features of this device I have decided to deduct 2 stars from my rating. The ability to connect USB to the cloud is one of the main disadvantages of this flash drive. If Kingston releases an update that fixes this, I may increase my rating, but for now it remains at Tier 3.
