Review on πŸ“Ά MikroTik LtAP mini LTE Kit - US by Dave Wolf

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Extremely powerful if you are aware of its limitations and understand RouterOS.

I have selected this LTE router to use as a 4G/LTE access router installed in the provided network package. This is a fantastic LTE router for the price, but there are a few caveats. Firstly, the number of supported bands is quite small (the US version only supports 2/1900MHz, 4/1700MHz, 5/850MHz and 12/700MHz). In most regions, you can easily connect to Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T services. I used a Verizon SIM card from an old MiFi in my router and easily reached 75Mbps download speeds outside of urban areas. There is a noticeable lack of support for additional bands in areas with poor coverage. I've been able to get download speeds of over 100Mbps in big cities. These speeds are significantly reduced depending on what other services are running on the router (you get all the functionality of RouterOS, but the CPU is blocked by a full firewall and other running services, as well as 2.4GHz WiFi). I use a HEX PoE router to do the heavy lifting on the network side, with the LTE router using minimal firewall and OSPF services to share routes with the HEX. The only major flaw I see with this device is that it doesn't seem to switch between SIMs automatically. As far as I could tell, you have to manually specify which SIM slot to use. There is no automatic selection of the best network between installed SIMs, although I'm not complaining because the price is right and the router has been stable over the 3 months I've been using it.
