I've been using this lens for almost a year, mostly shooting wildlife. I feel the lens is very sharp out to 350mm, with softness increasing as I zoom in. I limit my zoom use to around 370mm. Sometimes I'll zoom to maximum and zoom back out because I feel like I'm getting a better crop than a full 400mm. There isn't much choice at these focal lengths, so you'll just have to live with your aperture and shoot more shots. sveta The Fujifilm camera's autofocus is still a bit weak in lower light conditions, and I haven't had much luck with manual focus, even with peak focus. This is only an indirect blow to the lens as it's useless without a Fujifilm camera. The lens is quite heavy and I usually hold it in my hand when hiking to keep it from hanging around my neck. I wonder if the ring that holds the lens to the camera will withstand an occasional side impact, but so far it has (my XF 50-140 hasn't). I would buy it again though and will add a 1.4x teleconverter to improve coverage despite the additional aperture reduction. I'm hoping to get at least 1.4x350mm with the same clarity as 350mm. Turn on the sun! To demonstrate the softness, a shot of a bald eagle carrying a fish was taken at f/5.6, 400mm, 1/500 and there is some softness. Starting a normal prototype: f/5.6, 290mm, 1/900 and sharp in the head.
