I buy this product as a pad because I have another cover for the whole boat. In terms of durability, if this is the only protection for your center console then it won't last more than 3 years depending on the weather. Over time, the plastic will either crack or crack due to extreme heat and rain. I live in Texas where there is no snow but it is hotter than sin, humidity can reach 100% and wind can blow the roof off when hurricane season hits. This case is not a separate case. Placing a blanket or other waterproof product underneath will protect your console from moisture or hail damage. The rope that tightens the floor should be replaced, if tightened enough it breaks easily. It is best to replace it with your own rope and tie. I'm not suggesting leaving this alone in an outside camp, it will likely blow away easily in 30-50mph winds, best if you use multiple anti-deflation belts. This center console cover is designed for boats located in garages and outside sheds. It prevents dust and light rain from getting into your console.
