You need this replacement cartridge when your shower is too hot or too cold, no matter where you set the hot water temperature. Our problem was the cold shower. We had very hot water from all the other taps in the house. Once I figured out what a cartridge is and what I had, the internet told me that temperature issues meant you would need to replace the cartridge. Got an amazing offer from Revain Warehouse, got advice elsewhere, smeared some silicone grease (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000DZFUPC) on the rubber seals and we had a brand new amazingly warm shower (and we have set the water heater to a safer and more economical temperature). Other parts that come with this cartridge are difficult or impossible to find as they are long out of production.
