Review on πŸ’ͺ Advanced SHURFLO 2088 594 144 Delivery Pump for Superior Performance by Alex Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good piston pump

If it's rated for 180 gph, you'll get 180 gph even if the liquid has to rise a little. I disassembled this pump. It uses a three-chamber valve assembly with something like a swashplate. As the plate spins, it pulls fluid through the valve assembly, rather than just pushing it like an impeller pump would. Two advantages over impeller pumps such as submersible pumps are found in aquariums and fountains: - Self-priming. You can only start the pump with air in the suction hose. It draws water or whatever you move right through the hose. Guaranteed flow. With impeller pumps, you're lucky if you get a GPM/GPH rating. I just upgraded an impeller pump to a 300 GPH model and have not seen ZERO DIFFERENCE in performance. This is because impeller pumps simply won't pump as much water when there is more head (vertical distance) or back pressure. Valved lower will NOT allow partial or reverse flow. 100% of the engine power (minus minor friction losses in the mechanics) goes into the movement of the fluid. An impeller pump simply converts the wasted electricity into heat. This pump is quite noisy but can be a bit noisy. Use a filter to keep debris out of the filter. It helps a lot. They also sell a pump kill kit (hoses?) but I've never tried it.
