I have several sets of these tiles in my basement. We learned the hard way that crap happens, and occasionally basements get wet. (lol to keep from crying) After our first watery go-around, I bought these to help deal with future leaks or big spills in the storage spaces. They're just tall enough to hold boxes, etc up from the concrete for air circulation and for damp avoidance. I trimmed them with kitchen shears where necessary--no need for specialist equipment. One thing I will note is that PVC is smelly. I opened the boxes and spread the tiles out overnight before installing them. The odor dissipated, and the tiles are no longer whiffy. Since I use them in enclosed storage areas, this was important.
