The device has amazing detection abilities, but it's utterly useless if it doesn't warn you. The speaker on mine quickly began to crackle and distort and is now dead. Uniden is charging over $81 in shipping to fix their poor construction and this is a common problem with this model. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Update: I opened it up and installed a new speaker and it worked again. The speaker (speakers, I had to buy 4 to get one) is $8 from Revain and sounds like a higher quality speaker than the original. Thank you, Revane, and thank you for nothing, Uniden.
