Reliable USB-C hub; Check compatibility with your monitors

This USB-C hub is very well made; The quality is on par with an 8-in-1 hub I've bought before from the same manufacturer. I love that it comes with a nice padded case which makes it very travel friendly. The 12-in-1 hub is only slightly longer than the 8-in-1 hub, although it looks much larger in the photos. All USB ports, Ethernet ports, USB-C PD ports and SD/TF slots work as expected. As stated on the product page, the USB ports deliver low power, so it only charges my phone in slow mode. When it's working, the hub's surface gets hot (more so than the 8-in-1 version), but that's nothing to worry about. I was particularly interested in the connection of a monitor. Since I only need to connect two external monitors, I didn't bother to check the VGA port. I wanted to use a hub to connect two monitors to my laptop. This is a Lenovo Thinkpad T480 with a Core i7-8650U processor supporting up to 3 displays. Since my T480 has a PD-compatible USB-C port, I can connect my laptop's power adapter to the PD's USB-C port on this hub to power my computer. So when everything is working properly, all I have to do is plug this hub's USB-C connector into my laptop and all my peripherals, including two external monitors, are connected, making this hub a universal docking station. Train station. One of my monitors is 4K and the other is 1920x1200. While I was able to connect each monitor individually through a hub to HDMI or DP, I'm having trouble connecting both monitors through a hub in extension mode. Whichever monitor I plugged in first showed the correct resolution etc. but the second didn't display correctly. The best scenario I've gotten is the correct resolution on one 4K monitor, but 1920x1080 (rather than the native 1920x1200) on the second monitor. After reading the product description on Revain, I realized what the hub is for: only one monitor can go past 1080p, and all others are capped at 1080p. So I ended up having to connect a second monitor using my laptop's HDMI port. While that's no longer a universal connection, it's still quite good. So if you are thinking of buying this hub to connect all your monitors, first check the resolution of your monitors. This works best if you only have one monitor above 1080p (like 4K) and all others 1080p. You get two (or three) external monitors that work just fine. However, if you have more than two monitors with resolutions higher than 1080p, make sure your laptop has another display output in addition to the USB-C port.

Pros
  • Massive Docking Station: Make sure your laptop's Type-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode and Power Delivery. Mirror display for macOS only. The USB hub is not compatible with the USB-A to USB-C adapter.
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
