Edit 5/2019: It was brought to my attention that Amazon has mixed reviews of 28mm and 50mm. My rating refers to 28mm. I hadn't used 50mm at that point. This lens is amazing! It's light, compact and fairly sharp in the center with a wide open aperture. The corners are slightly open and the vignetting is nice but not intrusive. Stop it a bit and it gets sharper, except maybe the last 3% outside the corners. Like all lenses, it is made of metal. I think I should deduct a star because the focus ring is a bit small and stiff, but that doesn't seem fair for such a cheap lens. I recommend an empty filter ring or two up front as a thin lens hood, but that's my usual practice for a prime lens of this size. I'm surprised by those complaining about the sliding metal lens cap. If you don't like it, spend $2 and buy a regular plastic plug. After all, this is a standard size! I personally prefer a good flip cap like the one that comes with this lens. Canon does not supply anything with this cap! I am in no way affiliated with this seller or manufacturer and have not received any compensation from them. I just really like this lens.
