Inability to absorb water

I used this product in my AprilAire humidifier. In less than a month he was unable to keep the humidity at the right level. Needless to say, I was disappointed with the performance. I opened the humidifier and found the evaporator seal was dry. It wasn't that the pillow was calcified - I use reverse osmosis to bring water to the humidifier, so the water supply couldn't be much cleaner. When I inspected the vaporizer pad, it was dry so it couldn't humidify the air. I'm a chemist so I thought the pads were originally treated to make them absorb water, but this treatment worked through. So I started looking for a solution. As a chemist, I know that hydrophilic substances (as opposed to hydrophobic ones) tend to attract water. So I thought of a hydrophilic substance that might be on hand. I knew most soaps are hydrophilic. Since I had Dawn unscented dish soap, I decided to give it a try. I made a 20% solution of Zarya in water in a spray bottle. I generously moistened the vaporizer pad with it. I then added about a tablespoon of Dawn to the humidifier reservoir as well. The results were amazing. The humidifier began humidifying the air almost immediately. This is my experience, it may not work for you. This definitely worked for me. About $15 for an evaporative pad, that can save you some money and it's not that hard to do. Why don't the people who sell these pads offer a hydrophilic solution for them?
