I have two Slamtec A1M8s but needed an O&M of the smaller A2M8 as I had limited space to mount the lidar on the front of my 1/scale Traxxas 4WD Slash Truck Ten. Chassis. I have built a lidar test rig consisting of an Rpi 3B+ and a Waveshare LCD programmed with Adafruit's RPLidar Python program to display distance data as dots on the LCD. As expected, A2M8 started working right after launch. However, unlike its A1M8 cousin, the box's turret doesn't start rotating until the viewer requests range data, and then it starts rotating. If you have a lidar app but have limited installation space, this lidar is for you.
