Review on πŸ’ͺ Powerful MKT Conset Masonry Phillips Fasteners: The Ultimate Screws with Impressive Diameter by Rob Madden

Soft Metal, Light Duty

I was installing rigid foam insulation on a basement wall in my house. At the recommendation of the insulation manufacturer, I used foam adhesive and 6 of these masonry anchors with each 4x8 foam board. The good part: 1. Cheap. Compared to better known brands in big stores. Sufficient holding power.3. Come up with a drill (more on that later). Bad: 1. The metal is soft. When driving a screw into concrete, the head is easily knocked off when using an impact wrench.2. The supplied drill was too short. When attached to a drill, it was about 1" shorter than the screws, and when routing, the pilot hole should be slightly deeper than the screw to allow dust to get somewhere in the hole. As a result I had to use long 5 inch bits from Bosch.3. The screws come with a 5/32 bit, so I started with a Bosch 5/32 bit first to drill the pilot holes. When using an impact wrench, the screws will bind and not fully seat. I had to use the closest large bit I had (3/16 in this case) to be able to drive these screws. I wouldn't do this if the screw was going to support something heavy, but something light like foam. board, everything was fine. For heavy-duty support I would look at other brands. But no matter what brand you buy, you'll most likely have to throw away the drill bit that came with it, as it's usually junk.
