Emerson ceiling fans are poorly designed and manufactured. I've had a few of these and the main issues range from a dying motor to loosening half of the bolts in the unit. The remotes never work and require the fan speed and light buttons to be pressed multiple times to work. The most effective way seems to be to move around the room in such a way that the signal is picked up. These are expensive, cheaply made fans that never balance. They end up making noise and swaying all the time while Emerson knows they're crappy fans and proceeds to sell them with impunity.
