Unlike many of the cheaper competitors, these speakers are built to perform in all weather conditions. In addition, the sound is impressive and neutral. I think some of the complaints about speaker burnout come from people who expect too much and listen to bass-heavy music. For classical/jazz they couldn't be better. Keep in mind that there is only one speaker here, not a pair. We didn't realize this when ordering, but when we saw the first arrival we realized it was worth the extra cost. We already know this brand from the home hi-fi sector. I expect these speakers will last at least ten years as have the other high quality outdoor speakers we've bought. The competition models we looked at are perhaps only a few years old, given our often foggy ocean environment.
