The 28 inch height was just right for what I needed, which was to mount a pair of Sonos One SL speakers. Please note that the speakers are only frictionally secured to the surface, but as long as the stands are not compromised they should work just fine. Assembling the shelves was a bit fiddly, but nothing annoying. They appear to be of good quality. I used them in a surround setup so it worked well below normal height because the speakers were kept under the top of the back of a chair so the woman wouldn't get upset.
