Review on πŸ§€ Progressive International Grate, Slice & Store Set - Multi Color, One Size by Katie Alvarado

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The price is more than justified

I always suspect fake reviews when I see a product with a near perfect average 5 star rating, especially when I don't recognize the brand. However, I needed a grater with its own container and protection as I accidentally cut my fingers while grating and this one had the highest rating. I was pleasantly surprised that it is of good quality and has a fairly thoughtful design. The bottom of the container has a little black rubbery non-slip material on the front and back that really kept the container from moving across the counter when rubbing. I like that the container has measurement markings to use as a reference (although I haven't tested the measuring cup). The grater and cutting plates appear to be encased in durable plastic. The cutting blades are very sharp. Friction plates are not that sharp but good enough. For example, when washing the grater plates, I can (easily) move the sponge back and forth on the grater without damaging the sponge. With other floats, the only way I can clean them is by moving the sponge in one direction, because in the other direction, the sponge's surface is scraped away. But I can grate carrots and chilled hard cheese just fine. Each cymbal is a different color and its function is engraved into the plastic, which I thought was a nice touch. I placed it too hard or accidentally knocked it over. However, the handguard is in need of improvement. It has plastic tips that don't grip hard foods (like carrots) well. The spikes are also widely spaced, so softer and/or smaller foods (like cheese or garlic) don't get a good grip. Due to the spacing of the spines, ungrated pieces of garlic slip out from under the casing. If you press too hard, the combination of the spikes digging into the cheese and the pressure created by moving the grater back and forth will cause some of the cheese to crumble before it can be grated. I turn the guard to the side so the edges (that grip the sides of the grater) can grab the food and hold it under the guard. It's not the best solution, but it helps. Overall I'm happy with the purchase considering the value for money and the features.
